范文一:

A teacher is generally regarded by many anauthoritative role in teaching activities and being ateacher requires solid academic ground in thesubject which the teacher specializes in. Therefore, teachers' teaching performance should be assessedby teachers, who have been trained in teachingmethodology and thus are more professional inevaluating process. However, as far as I'm concerned, it is more useful for schools to collectinformation about teachers' performance and allocate rewards to those who perform wellbased on students' evaluations.

To start off, it is more reasonable and effective if students evaluate teachers' teachingperformance. Because students are the direct receivers in everyday teaching activities. Theyare better acquainted with their teachers' teaching performance either in teaching expertiseor teaching styles. They can judge whether their teachers' methods are effective for them ornot in a long run. Whereas, other teachers are not able to know well the teacher's teachingperformance by attending only one demo class of the teacher being evaluated. Since ateacher's overall performance shouldn't and can't be assessed merely through several classdemonstrations, evaluation for teachers' performance from their colleague teachersshouldn't be seen as reasonable and valid enough. In addition, teachers are supposed torespond to students, not to their colleagues nor supervisors. An experienced teacher shouldprepare teaching materials and give assignments based on students' learning abilities. Teachingadjustment is always necessary in making lesson plan. This process, however, may conflictwith the standard curriculum plan that schools assign. In this case, the teacher will probablychoose to conform to the standard lesson plan to appeal to his or her peers and the school'sauthority if his or her teaching performance is evaluated by them. Therefore, it is essentialto design a valid evaluation system to incentivize teachers to respond to students rather thanothers.

Secondly, students are more inclined to give more objective evaluations compared with otherteachers. Students tend to make assessments according to the teacher's teaching expertiseand popularity among students, while other teachers might give unfair evaluations due to thecompetition existing among them. If one teacher takes the lead in evaluation ranking, his orher peer teachers may seem uncompetitive by comparison. Biased comments might be givenby other teachers out of defenses for their own interests. So, if schools reward teachers basedon other teachers' assessment, there may be more chances of controversy arisen regardingto the fairness of the process. Also, this may lead to a detrimental trend that teachers willno longer respond to students' well-being, but concentrate more on how to make friends withtheir colleagues and supervisors, which will further increase the bias and controversy of theevaluation process.

In all, it is necessary for schools to adopt both students' and teachers' evaluations in order tobe objective for assessing a teacher's performance. However, it is unreasonable to focus onthe latter. It is more useful to evaluate a teacher's performance by students because theyhave more reasonable and objective considerations compared with other teachers.

Just as what the great economist stated before: people need incentives to keep going, offering bonuses to teachers is for sure an effective way to encourage better educational quality and performance. In this case, whether teachers ‘performance should be evaluated by their colleagues or students remains a question to be discussed. From my humble opinion, so close is the association between students and teachers' performance that students should undoubtedly be the main part of evaluation.

One criterion of teachers' performance is whether study skills of students have been improved. As we can easily have access to the knowledge in this day and age, how we understand and command them is what actually matters. Study skills like problem analysis and time management play a leading role that may influence our learning efficiency and absorption of knowledge. Therefore, teachers' way of teaching study skills is so important that it should be the first and foremost criterion to evaluate their performance.

The great academic achievement is certainly pleasing, but students' moral standard and behaviors should, by no means, be excluded to determine whether teachers have done a good job or not. I once read about a survey on a magazine about the keep person contributing to the shaping of a child's personality. The astounding results showed that teachers, share the percentage of 43, are the main persons who will influence children's moral standards, compared with parents who share only 31%. A successful teacher should, therefore, be a role model himself/herself in order to develop the precious quality like honesty and diligence of students. Hence, students' moral behaviors are also an inevitable part in the evaluation.

Admittedly, appraisals from tether teachers can be utilized to evaluate a teacher’s working efficiency, communication skills or contribution to their jobs. But evaluation from students apparently indicates a more direct judgement of teachers' performance.

The main goal of teachers is to lead their students to the right path. They are like gardeners and students are flowers. How we judge a gardener is to see if the flowers are well grown. As far as I'm concerned, without the feedback from students, the evaluation of teachers' performance is not comprehensive and useful.

The constructive evaluation of the performance of teachers will greatly contribute to the education betterment. Nowadays there is a growing concern over the evaluation of teachers. Many people believe that they should be evaluated by other teachers, while others are inclined to the view that the teachers should be judged by their students. I believe that judgments from student will be of actual value.

First of all, objective feedback from students is more comprehensive which is convictive for school to offer bonuses for teachers. It is the most qualified for students to comment on teachers’ performance. Students are able to judge objectively whether the teacher’s teaching methods are helpful to them and whether they are quiet willing to accept the knowledge they have learned. A competent teacher should possess precise teaching methods and focus on classroom results and the mobilization of the classroom atmosphere. Furthermore, they also need to be patient with students in the after-class tutoring. Therefore, it can fully mobilize the enthusiasm of the students and allow them to find fun in their studies. As we all know, a humorous teacher is more likely to be popular with students. In the process of learning, students are gradually influenced by the teacher's personality, which helps them develop good habits and guide their future direction. From the evaluation among students, we can know the overall quality of a teacher.

Secondly, the assessment of students is more reliable than the evaluations of the other teachers.Although other teachers can evaluate from a professional perspective, there is a competitive relationship between them. So they are easily affected by subjective factors that may lead to unfair comments. Most of the students have kept a simple heart of innocence and they can truly reflect their own ideas without confusing the right and wrong. Excellent teachers can not only impart rich knowledge, but also share their life experiences and outlook on life with students. Then, only students can feel the care of their teachers in their daily lives. For example, one student is depressed and annoyed because of the pressure of the exam. The teacher helps him to exclude the difficulty and anxiety by the words of sincerity and affection which makes him optimistic. The evaluation of a teacher need to look at his achievements in academic research, more importantly, it is necessary to understand whether he has become a mentor and a friend in the eyes of students.

In conclusion, though other teachers’ evaluation could generate some minor merits for teachers teaching activities, this benefit could be achieved by many better methods. On the contrary, the advantages of asking students’ comment on their teachers’ performance should not be replaced, for it can help school make a positive decision about whether the teacher can receive bonus.
