2015年8月22日托福独立写作范文：The most effective way for governments to encourage energy conservation is to increase the price of gasoline and electricity?
In such a scientific-technologically developed society, energy has played an indispensable and dominant role in aspects of life, whatever in personal living or corporate expansion. However, with the rapid decline in the amount of the energy or recourse resulting from increasing demand as well as overly exploitation, it is imperative that government take measures to conserve the energy available. For example, increasing the cost of gasoline and electricity will admittedly control the use of both for a majority will not purchase or waste them as before, but it is not the only way due to some potential drawbacks in the long run.
For one thing, it will create a path for some commercial producers to make profits from the price-raising illegally when they are keen on the sole material benefits instead of the initial motive of the government. Energy, whose consumption has accounted for a big proportion in the national revenue, is always a hot issue in many profit-oriented companies. For instance, some gasoline companies will expand their exploitation area for larger inventories, from which they can get greater profits once the price of the products are increased. They will also force their employees to work excessively with disregard to safety. Doing so can not only conserve the energy as planned, but also bring some negative influenced on the social life.
For another, the increase in the energy may cause a financial burden for those relying on the resource, individually or corporately. If the strategy is carried out, some companies will face great difficulty in affording the energy, and consequently they cannot continue their production without resource provision. Neither can some families in some poverty-stricken areas. One of my relatives, living in a less developed village, is striving to save the money on the electricity or gas. Suffering from the pressure of tuition of his children, he has to try to live an economical life. Thus the increase in the price of electricity will inevitably become an obstacle in such occasions.
In conclusion, in spite of the possible effectiveness in the energy conservation, the cost rising will lead to some illegal cases or financial burdens to some poor ones at the same time. If there are some more complementary alternatives, such as to enhance the public awareness to conserve the energy actively, the goal of the government will be fulfilled in a balanced way.
Nowadays, frequent power cut or the drain ofoil supply has become a serious problem thatconcerns us with its damage to not only theenvironment, but also our efficiency in work andstudy. Although some people propose to raise the cost of fuel as a solution to this issue, Ipersonally believe that it is not the best way to solve the problem of air pollution.
Indeed, increasing the cost of gasoline and electricity can conserve energy to someextents. Considering the higher price of the fuel, more people would reduce their use of privatecars or shut down lights and the air-conditioner when leaving home. As a result, the reducednumber of cars leads to a decrease in demand to the gasoline and hence make the use ofenergy more efficiency. However, this solution does not solve the problem completely. Eventhe price of the gas goes up, most people would still choose to pay because fuels are the basicneed for them to work and travel. Such necessity is not able to be replaced, andconservative problems would continue to be a problem. For example, my mom drives to workevery day because there are no subway or buses between our home and her working place. Moreover, the public transportation is way too time-consuming and less comfortable.
For government, exploiting new energy sources, on the other hand, is a better alternativeto energy conservation because it’s a stable solution that will solve the problem eternally. Cars that are powered by solar energy, for example, do not have to worry about the limitedpower supply, since it uses a long-lasting and powerful battery to absorb and store theenergy from the sunlight and then use this energy to power the cars. According to researchconducted by scientists in Japan and China, by holding the transformation rate between solarenergy to electricity to 28 percent, the solar energy cars do not have to recharge itself and cankeep running under the sun for 18 hours. Based on this, cars driven by solar energy would pushthe limits of energy to a new level.
Moreover, spreading out the concept of conserving energy is another more effective wayto achieve the goal. In fact, there are certain group of citizens who are concerned withextravagant energy use, and they are quite cautious in using electricity, water and oilingtheir cars. If the government can take measures to educate more people with the sameprinciples, energy consumption might drop considerately. Henry’s father used to be a truckdriver when he was young. He is so fond of driving truck that he even go to nearby Walmart byhis Toyota Tundra. After Henry was lectured about the energy crisis in many developingcountries like India, he was aware of the fact that by saving energy as much as possiblehimself, he was able to help a family in New Deli to use electricity constantly for a night. Furthermore, he asked his father to join him and persuaded him to change driving truck intosome clean energy car, namely Prius. By doing this, they might save certain amount ofgasoline that could help poor people in Northwest Tibet use heaters in winter.
All in all, I believe raising the cost of the fuel is not the best way to conserve energy, sincethey are better alternatives such as applying new energy sources and necessary education tomore people about necessity on energy crisis.
