1) recommendations from friends or colleagues

2) information from media

Black Friday is around the corner. With a wide array of dazzling choices displayed in stores and online, consumers generally become somewhat at a loss when it comes to which particular product to buy. While there are some clear-minded and rational customers who are the least vulnerable to others’ persuasion and information. I believe that the majority of us will be influenced by the following-mentioned aspects.

First, friends and colleagues can be a reliable source information. Their advices are mostly based on fact and real-life purchase experiences. They can offer the most honest and practical feedback on the merits and drawbacks of a particular item. A case in point is my personal experience. When I was bewildered over which phone to buy- a new Samsung Galaxy or an iphone, I consulted several friends. They have either purchased the former or the latter. According to them, despite longer standby time than iphone, Samsung cell phone are not very adaptive to the send or reception of E-mails. What’ more, they don’t have evident competitive edge over iphones on prices. Following their advices, I bought an Apple product and it turned out that it is just as user-friendly as I anticipated earlier.

Additionally, media can be very helpful as well. Commercial can keep customers informed of the latest fashion trend. Fashion magazines keep posting tips for matching different clothes in one’s closet. What’s more, reviews form online shopping website is particularly useful. Click into Taobao, currently the largest online shopping website in China, you can easily find whatever product you would like to buy. Notebooks for students, fancy dresses for girls, sneakers for the sport enthusiasts, and even furniture for the newly-weds. What’s more appealing is that under every item to be sold, you can practically find dozens of comments and reviews from other buyers, listing the pros and cons of the product.

Undeniably, advices from eloquent salesmen can do give some professional insight about a product, but they can be exaggerating and misleading at times. Overall, the decision of purchases can be largely affected by these sources of information.

There is no denying to the fact that establishing an appropriate decision is one of the main purposes of human beings’ life, and without any reservation, effective decision needs to access the source of information providing accurate and logical info. Nowadays, there are various methods for people to get recommendation to support their decisions. Recommendations from friends or colleagues, information from TV and magazines newspapers, and recommendations from sales person in the store are options which can be named in this regard. Nonetheless, there are benefits and defects for these methods. My argument for these options are explained as follow.

In my point of view, recommendations from friends or colleagues are pleasure because of similarity in our style and interest. Almost everyone selects persons as friends whom are in the same mentality with oneself. Certainly, if a person think like me and know which items are important for me, he or she will have appropriate recommendation which can help me make a satisfying purchase. Nevertheless, the recommendations from friends and colleagues are usually not very specific and lack of professional view, so we need also another 2 information sources.

Another source of information which can take you some recommendation is media such as TV, newspapers, and magazines. People could learn from these sources a lot of information and have an overview about different products. In my point of view, advertisements depict merits of every things respect to another, and provide a situation for me to comparing them in various cases. In addition, there are educational programs on TV or articles in magazines and newspaper with the help of which I become familiar with new options and information about new technological devices, such like the maximum power of a special car or long life battery of a laptop from a special brand. Conversely, it is possible that I make an incorrect purchase lead to misunderstanding of advertisement, or maybe there is an advertisement which deceive audience by exaggerating about its product. Therefore, in some cases these sources cannot be reliable and get insubstantial information to individuals.

Recommendations of sales person is another option as a source of information which could be very useful also. The sales person could give us some very professional advice, about the detailed information of the product. They could also help us to try the product not only hear about feature of it or see its appearance. The sales person can suggest us select a product which be proportional to our budget, our purpose of purchase, as well as our personal interest etc. We can discuss and communicate with sales person face to face, consequently, we will have a perfect selection for our major purchase.

To conclude, in order to make a reasonable purchase, people should take considerate of many different sources of information. These 3 sources can be all very useful, but we should compare and think over then make the final decision.
