Thanks to the rapid social and economic progress, the ever increasing job mobility has become an obvious trend in job market, among youngsters in particular. There are many reasons behind such phenomenon.
To begin with, it is much easier for young people today to change a job than before. About two decades before, people hunted jobs mainly through friends’ recommendation and advertisements on newspaper, etc. But today, there are many professional recruiting websites with numerous companies posting their position vacancies with detailed job description and requirements. Simply by inputing job titles in search engine, people can get much information and then apply online. In a word, online application simplifies the job hunting procedure.
Secondly, the cost of changing jobs today is much lower than before, especially in large cities. With numerous companies locating in central business districts, the change of jobs does not necessitate the relocation of residence like before. Furthermore, youngsters today in general have stronger ability to adapt to new environment, which removes the risk of failure in new company. Therefore, once one is unsatisfied with current position, there is fewer concerns and barriers for him to make a change.
Overall, this is a socially useful tendency because it promotes both individual well-being and the quality of job matches. Young people find a better job with higher incomes and brighter future development, while the company recruits best candidates for the positions. However, the company has to take measures to improve employee commitment and retain talents by providing training and promotion opportunities, so as to reduce turnover rates and recruitment costs, the negative sides of high job mobility.
To sum up, youngsters today change jobs more frequently, because it is more convenient and cheaper for them to do so. This is in general a positive trend.
