2019年12月7日雅思独立写作范文:Nowadays some older people choose to live in retirement communities with other older people, rather than living with their adult children. Is it a positive or negative development?

In the present society, we have stepped into an aging society (老龄化社会). Many countries and governments are much more concerned about (关心) the situation confronting us, especially how can seniors be able to lead a happy life (安享晚年).Under this circumstance, many geracomiums (n. 敬老院)spring up like mushrooms (如雨后春笋般冒了出来) with the view to furnishing the elderly a better place to settle down (安身).Personally, I think this is a wise practice (一个明智的做法) to resolve the aging issue.

The first reason for approving of retirement homes (养老院) is about the time shortage of young people. In a fast-paced society (快节奏的社会) with fierce competition (竞争激烈), young people always devote themselves wholly to (投入) their work and life, so that spending time and energy taking care of old family members is no more than a fantasy (只是一种幻想).Therefore, the last hope goes to old people’s homes that can offer bounteous food (丰盛的食物), 24-hour nursing service (护理服务) and entertainment facilities, rendering (v. 致使) them a happy life there. In a place consisting of old people, they can also make some new companions and friends and establish good relations (建立良好的关系) with them, which improves their emotional well-being (情绪健康).

Placing elders into geracomiums can also avoid family conflicts (家庭冲突) caused by the gap between generations(代沟).It is clear that the lifestyles of young and old people are seriously different, even exclusive (adj. 排斥) from each other. For example, young adults like something exciting and surprising, while the older prefer peacefulness and quietness. If they live together, it is expected that there would be too many disagreements (n. 分歧), disputes, misunderstandings and even complaints between them, thus putting the family tie (家庭关系) into tension.

In summary, I believe that the emergence of retirement homes is a blessing for the aged for a more appropriate environment (一个更合适的环境) can be supplied. However, they are not a paradise (n. 天堂) without the care and visit of family members.

People are wondering about where they want to live during their last stage of life. Today’s increasing retirement homes can be a good thing for some people but bad for others.

Living in a retirement community(社区)can be an attractive idea for some old people, especially those who want to live among people of similar age(年龄相似的人). Many old people find it out of the question(不可能的)to live with their children because the generation gap(代沟)is so big that they sometimes simply cannot communicate with each other. In the retirement home, however, the old people often find they have a better time living with those with similar interests(兴趣相似的人). Besides, a retirement home provides a variety of benefits that may appeal to(吸引)the old people, such as the around-the-clock supervision, on-site medical care, and individualized(个性化的)help with daily needs. These benefits can make a difference in the lives of elderly people.

However, sending an elderly parent to a retirement community also poses several potential problems(潜在的问题). In the first place, it is difficult for many families to afford(支付)a retirement home’s services which are typically very costly(昂贵的). It is, therefore, a great financial burden for families to have their old parents living in a retirement community. In addition, some elderly people, even without financial problem, have trouble living in a retirement home. Some of them may be so independent that they are simply not ready to accept help from others. For others, leaving their home and familyterritory(领地)may be very difficult because that involves(包含,涉及)adjusting to an entirely new environment and lifestyle.

In conclusion, there are pros and cons regarding the idea of retirement communities. It is hard to say whether the idea is positive or negative because the answer varies from person to person(人与人不同)
