2019年8月17日雅思考试刚刚结束,智思教育雅思教研组就给大家送来了17日的雅思写作大作文题目:
More and more parents today allow their children to play on computers or tablets (e.g. iPad), because parents think children should learn technology skills.
Do you think the advantages outweigh the disadvantages?
雅思写作高分范文:
Many parents believe that it is important for their children to acquire technology skills; thus, an increasing number of them have given their young charges access to electronic devices. In my opinion, the drawbacks of this phenomenon prevail over the benefits.
The fact that parents encourage children to play on computers and tablets for the acquisition of technology skills is detrimental for children in terms of the development of their social skills. Various programmes on computers and tablets have been made so attractive to children, which considerably reduces their willingness to go out and involve themselves in different activities with their peers. Gradually, they will notdare to socialise with others, resulting in a lack of social skills.
Additionally, children’s academic performance can be adversely affected with the exposure to electronic equipment. Being addicted to varying interesting applications installed on computers and tablets, children may try to spend more time having fun with computers and tablets instead of doing homework. Over time, they will have difficulty understanding the learning content, keep failing in exams and fall behind their classmates.
However, it seems reasonable that having the ability to operate new technologies provides a valuable soft skill when it comes to seeking employment and accomplishing their work commitments in their adulthood. With technology widely employed at work, employers prefer workers having the idea of using certain office software, such as Word,Excel and Power Point. Meanwhile, people adept at using such programmes, will achieve higher work efficiency.
In conclusion, I think that there will be more disadvantages than advantages pertaining to parents increasing their offspring’s frequency of using technological products to learn technology skills. After all, neither can children be provided with enough opportunity to improve social skills, nor can they focus on their studies to achieve better results. However, I admit that parents’ action enables children to gain technology skills to benefit themselves at the workplace in the future. Therefore, parents should give supervision on children’s screen time to allow children not be negatively influenced while acquiring technology skills.
